kawamura-ganjavian have been recently appointed co-leaders of the ELOPE interdisciplinary platform at the Bern University of Apllied Sciences. This innovation-centred cross-cultural research and master programme involves an international network of prestigious universities from Europe, Asia and the Americas. The topic of the coming semester is Learning Environments, a theme that lies at the heart of our own practice. We are thankful to Christoph Holliger, Corina Ebeling and Kathrin Merz for their support and enthusiasm.
kawamura-ganjavian submitted their entry for the extension of a Primary school in Conthey, Switzerland.
kawamura-ganjavian presents their new object, CAJONLIGHT, a lamp based on an experimentation between the space and the light. When switched off, its faceted volume and missing face give it a mysterious character. When switched on, its capacity to rest in different positions and its bonfire-like light turn it into a versatile and mesmerizing object.
OSTRICH PILLOW offers a micro environment in which to take a warm and comfortable power nap at ease. It is neither a pillow nor a cushion, nor a bed, nor a garment, but a bit of each at the same time. Its soothing cave-like interior shelters and isolates our head and hands (mind, senses and body) for a few minutes, without needing to leave our desk.
The competition entry developed in winter 2011 by kawamura-ganjavian for a professional secondary school extension and renovation in Delémont, Switzerland, was awarded the 6th prize.
kawamura-ganjavian has lead a Design Thinking workshop entitled "Revolutionize your Space" within the International MBA course at the prestigious IE Business School in Madrid. The experimental session, which took place on 28th March 2012, consisted of a series of rapid prototyping exercises during which the students explored mini-architectural interventions in the space of the school.
The bookstore La Fontaine, designed by kawamura-ganjavian and located inside the Rolex Learning Center opened officially at the EPFL campus in Lausanne, Switzerland. This is the final stage of a project that has engaged the studio for over a year. We are truly thankful to all people involved in the process.
