LANCY KINDERGARTEN

(Kindergarten; Geneva, Switzerland; 2011)

This kindergarten in the commune of Lancy, in the outskirts of Geneva, is immersed within a magnificent park and surrounded by large format trees. The footprint is highly conditioned by local regulations. The project takes a low profile and reduces the perceived scale by dividing the volume into two buildings linked by a seemingly-outdoors environment. The two boxes are clad in subtly coloured polycarbonate, establishing a certain mimicry with the surrounding greenery. By organising the kindergarden into two clearly defined "houses" the aim is to create a degree of community-building for their young inhabitants.
