(Elementary school extension; Fribourg, Switzerland; 2011)

The infant school Heitera is located in a lush sloping park in the Schönberg neighborhood of Fribourg. In a clear dialogue with the existing 1950s Brutalist primary school, the project is organised in five staggered cubes, the central one acting as main entrance, service and circulation core. Its location on the topography allows different level entrances, thus enhancing a fluid access for the children that approach the school from different directions. The experience from within the classrooms, with a wall that continues from the inside to the outside, brings the landscape of the park and the learning experience closer together.
